Hire more firefighters with SAFER grants

The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for equipment is well known, but their staffing grant, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) may have more potential to help struggling rural fire departments.

SAFER grants can support either hiring or recruitment and retention of firefighters. Fire departments can use these grants to supplement their training, benefits, recruiting, and certification budgets.
